God wants a go-kart
Maybe it’s because most prominent docuseries these days are Netflix Originals — which are generally schlocky and terrible — I didn’t expect much from Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God on HBO. In fact, I was a little late to the party because when I saw people talking about Mother God on Twitter, I genuinely thought they were meme’ing stan parlance — like “No because literally why is Ariana Grande Mother God?” Once I realised it was a docuseries with a mummified leader, Qanon ties, Robin Williams channelling, and offbeat medical advice (Mother God STUNS in colloidal silver overdose footage), I was on board.
Director and Producer Hannah Olson deftly balances what could be an easily sensationalised narrative. Because the series features many former members of Love Has Won who have not been deprogrammed in the slightest, you walk away with a more intimate understanding as to why these people flocked to leader Amy Carlson, and why they stayed. Obviously, it is both sad and fascinating.
This is the only show I’ve watched in recent memory that made me say “WHAT” out loud, to nobody at all. Many gasps were gasped, many sighs were sighed, an extensive amount of Googling took place. I recommend watching all three episodes in one long sip on a Sunday night, vertical, a snack readily available, perhaps dried mango, but definitely no alcoholic bevs.
R/prison
I only kind of know what it’s like to be in prison (dated several musicians), so this is a great place to keep up with what’s going on in there. I just really like knowing what these guys get up to. I don’t plan on ever going to prison, so it’s nice to microdose the experience by checking out informative posts such as these.

I’m sorry to have to bring this up, but the cruise people are simply at it again. Royal Caribbean’s cruise ship, Serenade of the Sea is currently on a nine MONTH voyage around the world, and TikTok dispatches have come in from participant (victim?) @brooklynschwetje.

Utterly cursed and dark sided. These people are going to be drunk, bloated and addicted to gambling by the time they get home — if they ever get there. This is not just a cruise ship, it’s a petri dish. Imagine, in the time it takes to gestate a human baby, this ship could create a brand new kind of scurvy, a fully antibiotic-resistant strain of gastroenteritis and three new mental illnesses.
The privilege of joining? Just 274 days of your life and $59,999 USD for the cheapest room. That’s only $218.97 a day to stay on a rocking boat in a room with no windows. Bargain!
Cruise people are to holidays what snake people are to pet owners. There’s just something not quite right about it and I’m not very interested in understanding what the fuss is about.
It puts the lotion on the skin

After many years of avoiding it, I caved on Cyber Monday and bought a travel sample of Paula's Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant. I am devastated to report that, after trying it, I am simply glowing.
Unfortunately, this is why I spent so much time refusing to buy it. It’s by no means a traumatic event, but I have been borderline obsessed with skincare for the last eight years, and every time I find a product that might just be a be-all-end-all holy grail mainstay, I feel oddly despondent. I suppose my journey with my skin isn’t about optimisation, it’s about exploration, and now that I love this exfoliant, I feel like I’ve almost definitively ticked a box forever.
Perhaps this consuming hunger to try product after product in the pursuit of sustained beauty is the fault of capitalism. Maybe I am just a little sad that a facet of my hobby has been rendered irrelevant. But at least while I wonder, my skin looks great. Really great. Thanks a fucking lot, Paula.
